Kathmandu-Istanbul Turkish Airlines flight makes emergency landing at Kolkata | India News

A Turkish Airlines plane heading from Kathmandu to Istanbul made an emergency landing at Kolkata Airport on Wednesday.
The Turkish 727 aircraft landed at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport around 14.49 after the pilot warned Kolkata ATC about a possible fire in the right engine of the aircraft.
According to NSCBI airport manager, the aircraft carrying 236 passengers is currently at Kolkata airport and is being examined.

The incident also triggered an emergency at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, news agency ANI reported, citing officials; because the right engine of the plane caught fire immediately after takeoff.
The right engine of the plane, which was heading from the capital of Nepal to Istanbul, caught fire immediately after take-off.
Tribhuvan International Airport General Manager Teknath Sitaula said, “Turkish Airlines flight THY-727 caught fire 4 minutes after takeoff, its right engine caught fire. The flight took off at 13.28 (Local Time).”
The official stated that after the engine caught fire, the pilot directed the plane to the west of Kathmandu and turned off the right engine, keeping the plane in the air for about 10 minutes.
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) deputy spokesperson Gyanendra Bhul told The Kathmandu Post: “The pilot informed the Kathmandu tower and continued flying with single engine, keeping the aircraft over Dharke area of Dhading district for some time to assess the situation.”
After inspection, the teams determined that the plane was unsafe for long-distance travel. Although they could have returned to Kathmandu or Bhairahawa, the pilots chose to avoid any risk and diverted the flight to Kolkata, according to Kathmandu Post.
