UK to be hotter than Barcelona this week as Met Office predicts highs of 18C

After months of stormy and wet weather, spring is finally on the horizon, bringing blue skies to the UK this week.

Parts of Britain will be even hotter than Barcelona in the coming days, with the Met Office predicting temperatures will top 18C.

According to the Met Office, sunny weather is expected throughout this week and is expected to continue into the weekend. Temperatures will peak between 17 and 18 degrees in the hottest parts of the country on Thursday.

This could rival last week, when the UK recorded its hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures reaching 18.7C at London’s Kew Gardens on Wednesday.

On the other hand, temperatures in Istanbul this week are between 7 and 12 degrees. In Barcelona, rain is expected on Thursday with temperatures ranging between 14 and 15 degrees.

After the rainy winter, weather conditions are expected to be drier this week.

Met Office spokesman Simon Partridge said: Independent: “Pretty good for this time of year, mostly top temperatures for the eastern parts of England, but dry conditions, some sunshine and not really windy as it is for much of the year.”

But he added: “It’s a bit complicated on Thursday as there is a band of rain trying to come in from the west, but this will be a very slow advance. So parts of western Scotland and Northern Ireland could see a fairly gray and damp day on Thursday, while the rest of the UK could experience mostly dry and decently sunny weather.”

While weather is expected to be clear with light winds in northern parts of the UK from Tuesday to Tuesday, forecasters are predicting fairly widespread frosts from northern England to Northern Ireland and Scotland, with temperatures dropping to minus two or three.

Throughout the day on Tuesday, conditions will be much better in the dry parts of the north, although the odd light shower is possible. It is expected to dry with sunny weather in the southeast.

On Wednesday, much of the UK will enjoy sunny weather, with temperatures reaching 14 to 16 degrees across the country. Mr Patridge said: “Most of the UK will be dry again on Wednesday, unfortunately not wall-to-wall sunshine, but there will be some lovely sunny weather on Wednesday.”

According to the Met Office, light rain and drizzle will fall in the north and west of Scotland and Northern Ireland by the end of the day on Wednesday.

As we enter Friday, it will rain in bands eastward across the country throughout the night. There may be some clouds on Friday, with rain in the east first, but then high pressure will increase again and the weather will settle back down to mostly dry for the weekend.
