Horror as 7 month old baby girl shot dead in her pushchair as ‘killer’ pictured | World | News

A seven-month-old girl was shot and killed while sitting in her stroller in broad daylight attack in New York, police said. A disturbing image of the alleged gunman has been released as police officers confirmed that a man matching the description of the gunman was being held in custody in connection with an unrelated investigation.

Efforts are continuing to capture the second suspect wanted in connection with the incident. The child, identified as Kaori Patterson-Moore, was being pushed in her car by her mother when gunshots rang out in the East Williamsburg neighborhood around 1 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

People, including the baby’s mother, father and two-year-old brother, took refuge in a nearby kiosk and scrambled for safety.

Tragically, it was there that the mother discovered Kaori had been shot in what police believe was a gang-related shooting, according to CBS.

CCTV footage from inside the kiosk, published by the New York Post, captured the harrowing moment when the mother realized her baby had been shot, became hysterical and jumped up and down as if screaming.

The child was taken to nearby Woodhull Hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.

“At least two shots” were fired by a man in the backseat of a motorcycle driven by another man against the flow of traffic at Humboldt and Moore streets, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference.

He later added that the motorcycle crashed and the armed suspect was detained, but a “massive” manhunt was ongoing for the driver.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said following the tragedy: “A life that had just begun was destroyed in an instant. Today is a devastating reminder of how much work still needs to be done to combat gun violence in this city.”

In the video footage, it can be seen that the suspects were hit by a vehicle while trying to escape, and both men were thrown from the motorcycle. The rear passenger hit the ground with such force that he lost “both his shoes,” Tisch said.

After the ambulance arrived, he was transported to Brooklyn Hospital and later taken into police custody.

Officers believe the man matched the description of the shooter, but he was taken into custody as part of an entirely separate investigation. The NYPD is now trying to establish a connection between him and the shooting.
