According to reports, a newborn girl was killed “after being thrown 12 meters out of a window by her five-year-old sister.”

Law enforcement officials said the terrible tragedy occurred when the couple was left home alone by their mother while her husband was at work. Passersby heard a girl screaming from the fourth-floor window, then saw the baby lying motionless on the floor.

Eyewitnesses said they were “weakened at the knees” by the terrible sight.

Paramedics confirmed that the 21-day-old boy died at the scene after falling onto concrete from a residential building in the Russian village of Vasilyevo.

The Investigative Committee of Russia said, “A criminal case has been opened over the death of the baby.”

The mother could possibly face jail time.

Investigators are investigating whether the five-year-old was “jealous” of the new baby and why the mother left her daughters home alone.

One report said he was visiting a friend.

“The actions of parents who left their children unattended and other possible scenarios are being investigated.”

A news report based on local sources said: “The girl was upset because there was another child in the house and threw the baby out the window out of jealousy.”

Tatarstan’s Zelenodolsk district chief Mikhail Afanasyev said: “Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the situation.

“I express my condolences to the family of the deceased and call on all parents to be vigilant and never leave their children alone.”
