The Saudi Airlines flight from Jakarta to Medina was diverted to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in Kerala due to a medical emergency. A passenger on the plane lost consciousness, causing a distraction. Thiruvananthapuram International Airport officials said the plane landed safely in Thiruvananthapuram and the passenger, an Indonesian citizen, was transferred to Ananthapuri Hospital for medical attention.
This isn’t the first time a Saudia Airlines flight has encountered an in-flight emergency. Earlier this year, smoke and sparks were reported in the wheels of a flight on June 16 while landing at Lucknow airport. A passenger on that flight recalled the rapid response of the authorities, stating that the incident was taken under control in just 20 minutes and underlined the rapid response of airport security teams in emergency situations. Speaking to ANI, the passenger said, “There were about 284 passengers on the plane. During landing, the pilot pulled the emergency brake. Immediately, the Fire Brigade vehicles at the airport came to extinguish the smoke from the tires of the plane. This process took about 20 minutes and we got off the plane soon.”
Lucknow airport officials said that the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) team rushed to the scene upon detecting smoke and brought the smoke under control, preventing any damage to the aircraft. Authorities stated that there were no injuries in the incident that occurred on the morning of June 15. While passengers were disembarked safely, airport operations were not affected. The plane had returned from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, carrying pilgrims. Shortly after landing, smoke and sparks were detected in the tires of the aircraft on the taxiway. An official said, “On the morning of June 15, smoke was detected in the tires of the Saudia Airlines plane that landed from Jeddah to Lucknow airport. The Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) team rushed to the scene. Working together with the Saudia team, the smoke was brought under control and damage to the plane was prevented. The passengers were safely deplaned and there was no impact on airport operations.”
