Great-grandmother slapped on backside while shopping at Kroger in DeKalb County

A great-grandmother says she was left traumatized after a man violently slapped her on the back while she was shopping.

She also says she learned two other women may have been attacked while shopping nearby.

Mae St. Julien says he feels safe while shopping. He soon realized that this was far from the truth.

“It made a loud noise, almost like a gunshot,” he said Tom Jones from Channel 2.

St. Julien says nothing like this has ever happened to him.

“To me, being hit in that spot was a form of sexual assault,” she said.

The 73-year-old great-grandmother said she was pushing her cart in aisle 3 at the Kroger in Ellenwood on Flat Shoals Parkway around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 26.

St. “I focus on my work by shopping for a recipe I found on TikTok,” Julien said.

Just then, a young man came up behind him and slapped him hard on the back.

He said he was proud of what the attacker had just done.

“He turned around and smiled and ran away,” she said.

St. Julien says he is stunned, hurt, traumatized and angry.

When police arrived, he said, an officer told him he had just finished investigating a similar incident in which a man attacked two women at the grocery store across the street.

“He hit the back of them and ran away,” he said.

This event happened in St. He injured Julien and told him he might need to see a counselor about it.

St. Julien wants to raise awareness about the incident and wants the attacker to be taken off the streets.

“I want him to be caught, stopped,” he said.

DeKalb County police said they are investigating this incident. But they say they have no record of the incident at the grocery store across the street.

These women may not have chosen to pursue charges.

St. Julien says he’s been shopping at this Kroger for over 20 years. But he won’t come back now.
