Op Clean Sweep Gains Momentum With Public Participation in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: The cleanliness drive of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) “Operation Clean Sweep” is progressing with strong public support, municipal commissioner HM Dhyana Chandra said on Tuesday.

Commissioner Suryaraopet inspected the cleanliness work at Governorpet, Bhavanipuram (Swathi Theater Centre) and HB Colony and reviewed the ongoing cleanliness measures across the city. He also attended the program held at MP Das Street near Swathi Theater in Bhavanipuram.

Addressing the residents and sanitation workers, Dhyana Chandra said that the campaign launched on the instructions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu received an “overwhelming response” from the citizens. He noted that the initiative has been implemented in all 64 municipal divisions with the support of voluntary organisations, residents’ charities and terrace garden groups.

He appreciated the public participation, stating that it has significantly improved urban hygiene standards in Vijayawada while also easing the burden on sanitation staff.

Later, the commissioner inspected Anna Canteen in HB Colony and inspected sanitation, drinking water supply, air coolers and shaded queue arrangements for visitors. He directed the authorities to ensure proper care and public comfort at all times.

He also instructed the nodal officers to inspect Anna Canteens regularly and ensure that there is no disruption in facilities or services, stressing that all facilities must remain fully functional throughout the summer to avoid public inconvenience.

During the visit to the commissioner, chief medical and health officer Dr. K. Arjuna Rao, assistant urban planner Chandrabose, executive engineer J. Srinivas and assistant medical and health officer Dr. He was accompanied by officials including Annapurna.
