Live possum found hiding among stuffed animals in airport gift shop

Someone was playing possum or stuffed animal.
Among the plush kangaroos, dingoes and Tasmanian devils ready to be purchased by parents of nervous children, a live brush-tailed possum was waiting in a gift shop at an Australian airport this week.
Liam Bloomfield, retail manager at Hobart Airport in Tasmania, said the wild animal was first spotted by a shopper at the store on Wednesday.
“A passenger reported this to a staff member on shift and couldn’t believe what he heard,” Bloomfield told the Associated Press. “He then called (airport) management and said we had a possum in the store.”

Airport staff managed to get the animal out of there without harming it.
Bloomfield jokingly explained why the opossum was hiding with the stuffed toys: “I imagine he saw some of the stuffed animals for sale on the shelf and decided to take them home with them.” “He wanted to get involved.”

“Can you spot the imposter?” The airport wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday that showed the opossum curled up in a pen with its stuffed counterparts.
The airport continued: “This cheeky lost possum has cleverly found a hiding place among the Aussie plush toys in our retail store.” “Fortunately, he was transported safely from the terminal area and the area was cleared.”

Bloomfield said the opossum found a way not only into the airport but also into their hearts.
“We’ll have a little shrine for the opossum,” he said, according to The Independent. “It’ll be a nice little photo; once we get the name, we’ll put up a nice little sign in the front of the store to make sure it’s remembered.”
