Trump humiliates reporter with ‘are you a stupid person?’ blast in explosive exchange over Afghan shooter

Donald Trump humiliated a journalist in a dramatic on-camera outburst on Thursday, sternly telling the reporter: ‘Are you stupid? ‘Are you a stupid person?’

The personal attack took place during a news conference about the Afghan suspect accused of shooting two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday.

The extraordinary exchange unfolded as reporters pressed Trump on the investigation of 29-year-old gunman Rahmanullah Lakanwal and whether it was due to federal screening failures rather than immigration policy.

CBS News chief White House correspondent Nancy Cordes, 51, calmly noted that federal officials said the suspect “worked very closely with the CIA in Afghanistan for years, was vetted, and the investigation came back clean.”

The President reacted immediately.

‘It’s cuckoo. So he went crazy,” Trump said.

‘This happens very often with these people. You see them. But look, this is how they come in, they stand on top of each other. This is a plane. No reviews etc. There wasn’t. ‘They came without being examined and there are many more in this country and we will take them out.’

Cordes then pressed again, citing the federal watchdog findings.

Trump asked CBS News chief White House correspondent Nancy Cordes, ‘Are you stupid? ‘Are you a stupid person?’ After pressing him on how the D.C. gunman was able to get into the U.S.

‘It’s actually your DOJ IG [United States Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General] We just reported that Afghans brought to the United States this year are subject to extensive review by DHS and the FBI. So why are you blaming the Biden administration for what this man did?’

Trump’s reaction turned into a harsh personal attack on Cordes, who studied at Princeton University.

‘Because they let them in. Are you stupid? ‘Are you a stupid person?’ he responded.

‘Because they came on a plane with thousands of people who shouldn’t be here and you’re just asking questions because you’re a stupid person.’

He continued by launching into broad condemnation of the Afghanistan withdrawal and immigration bill.

‘And a law was passed that said it was almost impossible to get them out. “Once they got in you couldn’t take them out, they got in, they weren’t vetted, they weren’t checked, there were lots of them and they came in big planes and it was a shame,” Trump said.

‘The situation in Afghanistan was a complete mess. This should never have happened… We would have left Bagram, and in the meantime, we would have left Bagram.’

Despite the verbal barrage, the reporter appeared to take the insult at face value, but at one point he raised an eyebrow and shook his head as Trump continued to berate him, ignoring the information he was trying to clarify.

The photo Trump showed showed 640 Afghans rescued from Kabul in August 2021 by a cargo jet designed to carry 150 people.

An explosive confrontation between the president and a female reporter on Thursday night focused on the shooting of two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday afternoon.

It was the latest in a series of lashings at Trump at journalists.

This week, Trump accused a female New York Times reporter investigating “chilling” health rumors about him of being “ugly.”

Katie Rogers wrote about how Trump, 79, has reduced his public engagement in his second term compared to his first stint in the White House.

The article claimed that the President’s attempts to project ’24-hour energy, virility and physical stamina’ were becoming harder for him to maintain as he got older.

Trump also reacted after Katie Rogers wrote a piece about how the President’s age and health are starting to catch up with him in the Oval Office.

Then earlier this month, Trump told Bloomberg reporter Catherine Lucey to be ‘quiet and piggy’ after she asked about the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

At the time, the President was being questioned by reporters about Air Force One.

Lucey appeared to ask Trump a question about Epstein before the President began wagging his finger in his face.

‘Quiet, quiet piggy!’ Trump lashed out at the journalist as he stood in front of the camera.

The president attacked her again days later in another heated speech.

Speaking to the press outside Air Force One, Trump began responding to Lucey’s question about Tucker Carlson’s interview with white supremacist Nick Fuentes.

Later, the President interrupted the journalist, which led to a sudden outburst: ‘Would you let me finish my statement?

‘You are the worst! You’re at Bloomberg, right? You are the worst! ‘I don’t even know why they keep you.’

Authorities said at Thursday’s news conference that Lakanwal drove cross-country to D.C. from his home in Bellingham, Washington, before firing a .357 pistol at troopers Wednesday afternoon.

The President was taking questions from reporters following a meeting with Argentinian President Javier Milei When he belittled the broadcaster, he made a clear statement about his decision.

“You’re ABC’s fake news,” Trump told reporter I tried to ask him a question.

“After what you did with Stephanopoulos to the Vice President of the United States, I’m not taking questions from ABC’s fake news, I’m not taking questions from ABC’s fake news,” he said.

Stephanopoulos was interviewing the vice president when the conversation got out of hand.

Earlier Thursday, Trump solemnly announced that 20-year-old National Guardsman Sarah Beckstrom had died from her injuries, describing her as “an incredible human being” and “remarkable in every way.”

His colleague, 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Accused gunman Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national who entered the United States during a mass evacuation in 2021 following the collapse of the US-backed Afghan government.

Authorities said he drove across the country from Bellingham, Washington, toward the nation’s capital before opening fire with a .357 handgun.

National Guard members, Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe and Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, were shot. Beckstrom later died from his injuries on Thursday.

It was stated that the alleged gunman was 29-year-old Afghan soldier Rahmanullah Lakanwal.

Federal authorities are investigating the attack as an act of terrorism.

According to US officials, Lakanwal was working with the CIA during the Afghanistan war. CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed this relationship.

‘This person and so many others should never have been allowed to come here. Our citizens and soldiers deserve far better than suffering the ongoing consequences of the Biden Administration’s devastating failures,” Ratcliffe said.

He also confirmed: ‘Lakanwal worked with the CIA as a member of a joint force in Kandahar.’

Kandahar served as a Taliban stronghold and was the scene of intense fighting following the September 11 attacks. The CIA relied heavily on Afghan operatives during the conflict.

Lakanwal’s asylum request was approved in April under the Trump administration after fingerprinting, iris scans, background checks, interviews and formal risk assessments, according to #AfghanEvac.

A US official later told CNN that the suspect was ‘clear on all checks’ both before working with the US government and before entering the country.

Humanitarian groups have warned against the weaponization of crime.

“I don’t want people to use this tragedy as a political game,” #AfghanEvac president Shawn VanDiver said.
