Russian volcano in Kamchatka erupts for the first time in 600 years

The volcanic explosion was taken by a tourist guide in a helicopter. Reuters was able to confirm the location of the video as Kamchatka from the surface of the volcano, which matches the file images of the region. The date on which the video was saved was confirmed with meta data in the original video file. Reuters also reported that Krashennnikov volcano exploded on August 3.

On the telegraph channel of the Volcanology and Seismology Institute, Kamchatka Volcanic Explosion Intervention Team President Olga Girina said that Krashennnikov’s last lavus effusion took place in 1463 and the explosion has not been known since then.

The Kamchatka Branch of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Services, said that a ash feather rising up to 6,000 meters (3.7 miles) after the explosion of the volcano was recorded. The volcano itself stands 1,856 meters (6,089 ft).
