Watchdog contacts Musk’s X over flood of abusive images

The UK’s data regulator has said it has asked Elon Musk’s

“We have contacted he said.

Separately, in the US state of New Mexico, State Attorney General ‍Raul Torrez accused Grok of being one of several AI platforms that “lack basic security measures to ensure that its users do not violate the dignity and privacy rights of others, especially children.”

Torrez stated that he was “extremely concerned” by the images and promised in his statement to “aggressively inspect this area.”

xAI did not respond to a message seeking reaction to the commissioner’s or Torrez’s comments.

Hyper-realistic and sexually degrading images of real-life women have flooded X since Grok began complying with user requests to strip people in photos nearly down to their bikinis or underwear.

While authorities around the world have expressed disgust at the rise of non-consensual AI images on X, Germany’s media minister told Reuters on Tuesday that what he saw on the site “looks like the industrialization of sexual harassment”.

Reaction has been more muted in the United States, where Musk, xAI’s owner, wields enormous power. Federal officials contacted by Reuters declined to comment or did not respond to messages.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which describes itself as the largest U.S. child protection organization, said in a statement Tuesday that tech companies “have a responsibility to prevent their tools from being used to sexualize or exploit children.”

The center’s statement made no mention of Grok, X or Musk.
