Trump endorses Cuomo over Mamdani in New York mayor’s race

President Donald Trump on Monday night publicly urged New York City residents to vote for Andrew Cuomo over Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani in the mayoral election.
Trump’s support for former New York governor Cuomo’s independent candidacy comes on the eve of elections in which Curtis Sliwa is the Republican nominee and Assemblyman Mamdani has consistently been ahead in the polls.
“A vote for Curtis Sliwa, who looks much better without the beret, is a vote for Mamdani,” Trump wrote. Real Social post.
“Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice,” Trump wrote.
“You should vote for him and hope he does a great job. He can do it, not Mamdani!”
In the same post, Trump threatened to withhold federal funds from New York if Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, wins on Tuesday.
“If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the New York City Mayoral Election, I am unlikely to contribute Federal Funds to my beloved first home beyond the minimum required, because as a Communist, the once-great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival!” Trump wrote.
Mamdani is not a communist.
