Prosecutor fired by Trump administration joins Gov Gavin Newsom’s team

Former Sacramento U.S. attorney Michele Beckwith, who was recently fired by the Trump administration, has reportedly found a new job on California Governor Gavin Newsom’s team.

Newsom recently hired Beckwith as assistant secretary of legal affairs, putting her in a position to provide legal advice to the governor and state agencies. New York Times.

“Trump’s loss is California’s gain,” Newsom spokeswoman Tara Gallegos told the Times. He added that Beckwith “brings more than 20 years of legal experience and invaluable legal knowledge to our office.”

“To me, this is not a political issue, it’s an existential issue for our country,” Beckwith said in an interview with the Times. “If there’s anything I can do to help keep our democracy and our Constitution alive, I’m happy to do it.”

Beckwith was fired by the Trump administration after clashing with Greg Bovino, chief of Border Control in El Centro, Calif., over a court order to detain immigrants.

Beckwith was fired on July 15, just hours after telling Bovino that he was barred by court order from making arrests in an area stretching from the Oregon border to Bakersfield, California, without reasonable suspicion of violations of federal law, the Times reported, citing documents it reviewed. The report stated that a few days after Beckwith was fired, Bovino conducted a raid on the Home Depot parking lot, during which at least eight people were arrested for being in the United States illegally.

Recently, several fatal truck crashes have been linked to illegal immigrants who obtained commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) from California.

This includes a recent accident allegedly caused by Jashanpreet Singh, who is accused of drunk driving and killing three people in the crash. On October 23, the White House confirmed that Singh had received his CDL from California.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the DOT is cracking down on the issue at a time when there is a “disturbing pattern” of CDLs being issued to illegal immigrants.
