Teen left fighting for life after shark attack in Australia | World | News

The 14-year-old boy was suddenly caught in the monster’s jaws, leaving a life-threatening bite wound on his chest.

His brave friends pulled him from the water shortly after 6.20pm on Saturday. The young boy suffered significant blood loss and life-threatening injuries to his abdomen and internal organs, ABC reported. A group of teenagers were on the Australian island of Cook Esplanade when the victim was attacked shortly after entering the water.

Torres Shire Council Mayor Elsie Seriat said the children managed to save their friend by dragging them from the water. The news comes after a British tourist described horrific shark attack in Jamaica: ‘I thought I was going to die’.

He was taken to hospital for emergency surgery

The teenager was taken to nearby Thursday Island Hospital by the Queensland Ambulance Service.

He was later transferred to Townsville University Hospital in North Queensland for “emergency surgery”, the council said.

Mayor Seriat said in a statement: “This incident is very unfortunate and our hopes and prayers are with the boy and his family at this difficult time.

“Public safety is of great importance to the Council and we strongly encourage everyone to be careful and aware of the dangers in the waters around us and to use common sense at all times.

Society is shocked by the attack

“Our little community feels this deeply.

“We know many people are thinking about the young boy and his friends and family.

“Please continue to keep them in your hearts and prayers.”

Authorities have not yet said what type of shark they believe was behind the attack.

British swimmer survives double shark attack

A British swimmer has revealed he survived a double shark attack while embarking on a marathon swimming challenge.

Christopher Murray, 50, was injured by two great whites while swimming in the Catalina Channel off the coast of Los Angeles.

The first monster lunged at the athlete’s hand in the middle of swimming and sank its sharp teeth into his skin.

A few seconds later, he felt another group of squeakers pressing against his right foot.

Despite facing death, Christopher explained that he felt no pain and was actually more disappointed that he had to cut his marathon swim race short.
