A massive fire broke out in a building in central Kolkata in the early hours of Saturday, November 15, 2025. At least 20 fire trucks were sent to the scene to extinguish the flames; Firefighting efforts are still continuing. Authorities did not report any casualties as the shops were still closed when the fire broke out.

According to initial findings, a fire broke out in an electrical products warehouse on Ezra Street, causing the flames to spread to many other shops in the area. Many citizens and tradesmen flocked to the scene to control the fire.

A shopkeeper who was at the scene of the fire told members of the media, “I received a call early in the morning and came in a hurry. Everything was destroyed. We could not open the shop. I am standing here helplessly and watching our shops burn.”

Large flames and dense smoke, seen from far away from the source of the fire, caused panic among citizens.

Because the fire spread rapidly and engulfed many shops, fire crews had difficulty in controlling the flames even 3 hours after the flames started.

West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Director General Ranvir Kumar said, “The situation is under control now. The fire is under control now. Since these are electrical items, the smoke is huge.”

Neighborhood residents complained about the fire crews arriving late to the scene and not taking the fire under control. However, fire officials denied these claims.

Local councilor Santosh Pathak said the buildings lacked proper fire safety measures, causing major hurdles in controlling the fire.
