Trump announces plans for new navy warships to be known as ‘Trump-class’ | US military

Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water. Donald Trump announced his plans For the US Navy to build the next generation of warships known as the “Trump class”.
The ships will be larger, faster and a hundred times more powerful than any previous U.S.-built warships, the president said Monday. The project will begin with the construction of two such warships and will eventually be expanded to 20 to 25 new ships.
Secretary of the Navy John Phelan added: “Our enemies will know that America’s victory at sea is inevitable when the Trump-class USS Defiant appears on the horizon.”
Past battleship classes were often named after US states. But Trump, whose name already adorns many hotels and golf clubs, is now in what critics describe as a narcissistic frenzy.
Earlier this month, his administration renamed the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington in his honor. Last week, the Trump-appointed board of directors of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington voted to rename the center the Trump-Kennedy Center, adding a sign to the move even though it requires congressional approval.
Monday’s announcement came at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida. three posters on easel It showed off potential images of a new “Trump-class” warship called USS Defiant.
“The future Trump-class battleship, USS Defiant, will be the largest, deadliest, most versatile and best-looking warship anywhere on the world’s oceans. I want to thank the president for his vision to build this game-changing capability for the U.S. Navy,” Phelan told reporters.
“Iowa is designed to strike with the biggest guns, and that’s exactly what will define the Trump-class battleships: the offensive firepower of the biggest guns of our age. This ship isn’t just for knocking back arrows. It’ll reach out and kill archers.”
Like Trump, Phelan quoted approvingly Victory at Sea, a TV series broadcast in the 1950s It is about naval battles during World War II. “Now this new warship will command everything from battleships to drones and everything in between,” he said. “We will make battlegroups great again.”
Historically, the term battleship refers to a massive, heavily armored ship armed with massive weapons designed to bombard other ships or targets on land. Ships of this type were most prominent during World War II, when the largest of the US battleships, the Iowa class, weighed approximately 60,000 tons.
After the war, the role of the battleship in modern fleets declined rapidly in favor of aircraft carriers and long-range missiles. The US navy modernized four Iowa-class battleships in the 1980s, adding modern radars as well as cruise missiles and anti-ship missiles, but all four were decommissioned in the 1990s.
“We anticipate these ships will be the first of an entirely new class of warships to be produced in the coming years,” Trump said on Monday.
“I want to be very clear that we’re building them here. We’re working with others, but we’re building them here. We have great shipyards. We’ll be negotiating with some of the companies that operate those shipyards.”
The president added that the “golden fleet” will have hypersonic weapons and high-power lasers and will carry nuclear-armed, sea-launched cruise missiles currently under development. “We will make America a great shipbuilding power. We will make the United States the most powerful fleet anywhere in the world.”
It is more traditional to commemorate former presidents when naming aircraft carriers. in january the navy announced The two future aircraft carriers will be named USS William J Clinton and USS George W Bush.
