Fourteen arrested after Iranian embassy protest

Fourteen people were arrested and four people were hospitalized following a protest outside the Iranian embassy in London.

Police said a protester climbed over balconies and raised his flag to reach the embassy terrace before being detained on Friday night.

A further 13 people were arrested for crimes including violent disorder, assault on an emergency worker, criminal damage and trespassing on diplomatic premises.

The Metropolitan Police said missiles were thrown at police during the protest. Four officers were believed to have minor injuries, but none were hospitalized, the statement said.

The force added that a group of protesters attempted to prevent his lawful arrest and that dispersal tactics were used by police officers “to ensure the safety of those involved and to prevent further disturbances”.

Police added that a Section 35 dispersal order was issued outside the embassy “as a result of the ongoing unrest”.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said it was called at 20:45 GMT “to reports of an incident at the junction of Exhibition Road and Kensington Road”.

In the statement, it was stated that 4 people were hospitalized and 2 people were treated at the scene.
