One teen dead, another critical after hiking fall north of Brisbane
A woman died and a young man is in critical condition after the duo fell off a cliff while hiking on Sunday.
Emergency services were called Mount Beerwah – About 85 kilometers north of Brisbane – A pair of hikers, both aged 18, were reported to have fallen at around 10.20am on Sunday.
The grandmother reported that the couple was coming down the mountain when they fell.
The man fell from 90 meters into the cliff, the woman fell from 60 meters. Search and rescue teams descended to the cliff to save the hikers.
Medical teams determined that the woman died at the scene.
The man was treated for life-threatening injuries and taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he remained in a critical condition on Monday morning.
A third hiker, who Nine identified as the woman’s sister, was treated for shock.
