Met Office issues 18-hour amber weather warnings and ‘danger to life’ alert | Weather | News

The Met Office has issued a rare yellow weather warning covering 18 hours, with a “danger to life” warning issued to residents in affected areas. Weather warnings will be in force in Scotland from midnight to 6pm on Thursday for Central, Tayside & Fife (Angus, Perth and Kinross) and Grampian (Aberdeenshire).
The amber weather warning states: “Rain will be persistent and heavy on Thursday, with widespread accumulations likely of 60-80mm and up to 100-120mm on high ground. Event totals since Wednesday evening may exceed 150mm in a few places. This is expected to cause some surface water and river flooding across the region. This Amber warning is for moderate levels, mainly due to river flooding.” indicates a greater likelihood of impacts; Yellow warning covers a larger area and longer period.”
The Met Office warned that homes and businesses could be flooded, damaging some buildings, and fast-flowing or deep flood waters could pose a “life hazard”.
Train and bus services will likely experience delays and some cancellations; Rain and flooding will likely cause difficult driving conditions and some road closures. It is also possible that some settlements will be cut off from flooded roads.
Britons in affected areas have been asked to prepare a flood kit which can help protect their homes or businesses from loss or damage caused by flooding.
A flood kit should include insurance and other important documents; a flashlight and spare batteries; a first aid kit, prescription medications, and supplies to care for your family members or pets; and warm, waterproof clothing, blankets, food and water.
