President Donald Trump on Thursday called on Republicans to end the filibuster to end a month-long government shutdown.

In a late-night Truth Social post, Trump argued that Democrats tried to eliminate Senate procedure during the Biden administration when they took control of both the halls of Congress and the White House, but then Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema helped thwart that effort.

Trump suggested using the “nuclear option” after returning to the United States following his trip to Asia.

“But the one question that kept coming up was how did the Democrats pull this off? SHUT UP the United States and why did the powerful Republicans let them do it? The truth is, on the way back, I thought a lot about the question: WHY?” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson are doing a GREAT job, but the Democrats are Crazy Madmen who have lost all sense of WISDOM and TRUTH,” he continued. “This is a sick form of the now ‘mythical’ Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) and it only comes from losing too much. They want Trillions of Dollars taken from our Healthcare System and given to others who don’t deserve it – people who came to our Country illegally, many of whom come from prisons and mental institutions. This will hurt American citizens, and Republicans will not allow it.”
