Junior hockey coach arrested for raping minor in Haryana’s Rewari

A teenage hockey coach here was arrested this week for allegedly raping an underage girl who became pregnant and miscarried, police said.

The matter came to light when a 17-year-old bowler from Faridabad accused a prominent member of India’s batting coaching staff of sexually assaulting him during the National Championship.

According to the police, a class 12 student living in a village in Rewari district filed a rape complaint at Khol police station on Friday, January 9, 2026.

The girl said she played hockey and claimed that about four months ago, a coach she had known for three years raped her in the toilet of the stadium where she trained.

The victim said that she became pregnant due to rape, had a miscarriage on January 5, and was hospitalized by her family after her health condition deteriorated.

Rewari police said an FIR was registered on Friday under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and other relevant statutory provisions.

“We have arrested the accused young coach. After producing him in the city court, we have placed him in two-day police custody and are interrogating him,” Rewari police spokesperson said on Saturday. he said.
