Families demand refund after Christmas drone show flop

People who went to a Christmas drone display in West Sussex are demanding refunds after technical difficulties left many disappointed.

Ticket holders said they paid hundreds of pounds to bring their families to see the promised 600 drones at the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Drone Show at the South of England Showground at the weekend.

However, some said that they were confused because some drones could not take off and could not see the formations in the sky.

“The event was delayed for 20 minutes and when it finally started, half the drones were missing and nothing could be seen with the naked eye,” they wrote on social media.

Another person who went as part of a family of five adults and a child said that during the show, which lasted about 12 minutes, the audio and narration kept cutting out and many drones were not working.

“You couldn’t make out the images or characters, and it was too short. Then you’d expect a happy ending when the rather scary story about the snow monster ended – after all, it was Christmas, but it just stood there,” they wrote, adding that they traveled for about an hour and a half to get there.

“We have spent months creating a spectacular Christmas show and are excited for all our guests to experience it. We are incredibly disappointed that we were not able to deliver the entire show to the high standards we adhere to,” said a spokesperson for Lumina Drones, adding that its team was in contact with drone manufacturers in France to find out why the drones were not taking off.

They said they would contact all ticket holders via email as soon as possible with the update, but more than 1,000 people have already joined a Facebook group called “Full Refund – Rudolph – Lumina Sky Theatre.”
