US-Venezuela Conflict: Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino said in a video statement on Saturday (IST) that the country had been subjected to the “most criminal military attack” by the United States. This came just hours after several large explosions were heard in the Venezuelan capital Caracas early on Saturday.

According to Reuters, Venezuela’s Defense Minister also stated that his country will resist the presence of foreign troops.

Where are President Maduro and his wife?

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez said on Saturday that the whereabouts of the country’s President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores are unknown after the US attacks on Caracas, Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira in the early hours of the morning local time.

According to IANS, El Nacional, one of Venezuela’s leading newspapers, reported that Rodríguez asked the US government for proof of life of Maduro and Flores in a telephone conversation with Venezolana de Television.

“Delcy Rodríguez called on the public to be active in civil-military fusion to defend the country,” the newspaper reported.

US-Venezuela Tension

Citing sources consulted by Fox News, El Nacional reported that the nighttime US military operation involved a major deployment of Chinook helicopters and other special forces elements.

Previously, US President Donald Trump claimed that the Venezuelan President and his wife were “captured” and “flew” out of the country.

Trump said on social media platform ‘Truth Social’: “The United States has successfully carried out a large-scale attack against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who was captured and sent out of the country along with his wife.”

He noted that this operation is being conducted in conjunction with US law enforcement and that further details will be provided at a press conference to be held at Mar-a-Lago at 11 a.m. (local time).

American media reported that Maduro was captured by a unit of special and elite forces of the US Army Delta Force.
