Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins Dies at 48 After Being Attacked in Prison

Watkins was sentenced to 29 years at HMP Wakefield after being convicted of numerous offenses of sexual assault and abuse, including heinous crimes against children, babies and animals.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed the death of the 48-year-old singer, who was called to the prison on Saturday morning after a prisoner was attacked and found Watkins. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The BBC reported that Watkins was attacked with a knife by another prisoner. While the exact details and reasons for the attack have not yet been revealed, a prison spokesman said a police investigation is currently ongoing.

According to Rolling Stone, Watkins was first arrested in September 2012 after police officers seized several mobile phones and storage devices after executing a drug search warrant at his home in Pontypridd, a town in Wales.
He was jailed in December 2013 after admitting rape and attempted sexual assault of a minor, as well as a number of other child sex offences.
Watkins, a rock star in his 20s, founded the Welsh rock band Lostprophets in 2000. The band’s most popular hits include “Lost Train Home” and “Rooftops”.
