Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu resigns

President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh Bittu on Friday, July 24, 2026, an official statement said.

The statement said that on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the President accepted Mr. Bittu’s resignation from the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect. The president is currently on a three-country tour abroad.

Mr Bittu, who has been on the Union Council of Ministers since 2024, is likely to focus on elections in Punjab next year.

The grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh joined the BJP in 2024 and unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha elections.

He has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan for the remaining term of the seat vacated by Congress leader KC Venugopal.
