Student Working as App Rider for Fees Run Over

Hyderabad: A 23-year-old part-time driver, pursuing his fourth year of BTech and owning a ride-hailing app, met with a fatal accident when he was hit by a mini truck while returning after collecting exam material from a private engineering college.

Panjagutta police sub-inspector B. Venugopal said the victim, Ayaan Ahmed, was working as a driver to finance his education.

Police said the mini truck hit Ayaan and sped away. He died at the scene due to excessive bleeding. Police later tracked down the vehicle and arrested the driver, Aruvapally Mahesh.

The complaint was filed by Ayaan’s father Arshad Ahmed, who received information about the accident from his son’s friend Mohd Waseem.

Miyapur Police File Case Against Man Over His Wife’s Death In Car Fight

Miyapur police have charged one Konchepu Raraju for the death of his wife Vijayalakshmi, whom he allegedly attacked during an argument while they were traveling in a car on Tuesday. According to the complaint of Vijayalakshmi’s family, the couple has been married for about 14 years and has two children.

The complaint alleged that Raraju became addicted to alcohol and this led to frequent arguments in the family. On December 23, as the couple was driving to the defendant’s brother’s house, another argument broke out. Raraju allegedly attacked Vijayalakshmi after which she lost consciousness.

He took her to a private hospital at KPHB and the doctor on duty there declared her dead on arrival.

Two candidates were arrested for allegedly attempting to cheat

Two candidates appearing for the non-teaching recruitment examination at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) were arrested after they allegedly attempted to copy advanced technology. Gachibowli police said Anil, 30, and Satish, 31, both from Haryana, had appeared for the exam for the post of junior office assistant in the college campus.

An invigilator noticed repeated beeps in the exam hall and became suspicious. During Anıl’s body search, the staff found a hidden Bluetooth device. During subsequent checks, a miniature scanner hidden in the button of the shirt was allegedly used to scan the question paper and the answers were then retrieved via the bluetooth device using artificial intelligence-based tools.

Police said subsequent verification of other candidates in the hall led to the detection of a similar scanner in Satish’s possession.

Sajjanar warns about fake SMS and challans

City police commissioner VC Sajjanar on Wednesday issued a warning against cyber scams involving fake e-challans and SMS messages for traffic violations. He pointed out that a citizen lost nearly ₹ 6 lakh after mistakenly clicking on a fake e-challan link claiming traffic violation.

The website looked exactly like the official police portal. The victim was told that he had to pay a fine of ₹500. Sajjanar said that when he clicked on the link, the fraudsters charged his credit card €6,900 through unauthorized international transactions.

He asked motorists to check their traffic ticket status only from the official website echallan.parivahan.gov.in or directly from the state traffic police website.

Man wanted on 100 property crimes arrested

Battula Prabhakar, 36, who is involved in more than 100 property crimes across five states, was recently caught on CCTV cameras stealing worth Rs 60 lakh from an engineering college in Tamil Nadu.

On February 2, Prabhakar had opened fire on Madhapur CCS officer Venkat Reddy when a police team was trying to arrest him in connection with the theft in an engineering college. However, the police managed to catch him.

On September 23, Visakhapatnam native Prabhakar was arrested by Andhra Pradesh police. He was produced before a court in Vijayawada and later escaped while being taken to Rajamahendravaram Central Jail.

Police sources said the Tamil Nadu police later alerted the local police about Prabhakar’s involvement in the theft at a college belonging to a politician in the state.

Man Dies by Suicide in Shankarpally; Family Alleges Survey-Related Threats

A 28-year-old man died by suicide at his home in Gopularam in Shankarpally. The victim’s family, Kavali Anil, claimed that he was suffering from mental distress following threats in connection with the recently held gram panchayat elections.

They alleged that two persons, Thonda Ravi and Cheera Sai Kumar, threatened Anil for not voting in favor of Cheera Sai Kumar.

According to Mokila police, Anil was working in a private job. The family found his body and informed the police. Following the complaint, an investigation was launched into the incident and the investigation is ongoing.

Unemployed Man Found Dead by Suicide at His House in Kukatpally

A 32-year-old man was found dead by suicide at his home in Kukatpally’s Balajinagar.

Police said the deceased Sheikh Bajid lived with his father and his mother with her eldest daughter. Bajid had been looking for a job for some time.

On Tuesday afternoon, his father last saw him around 4 p.m. He later found Bajid unresponsive in the living room on the first floor of the house. His family informed the police, who registered the incident.

Eluru Man Found Dead in Kukatpally House Suspected of Alcohol Influence

Jagavarapu Sudheer Reddy, 44, from Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru district, was found dead at his home in VV Nagar in Kukatpally in the early hours of Wednesday.

He is survived by his wife and two sons. In the complaint filed by Sunitha, the sister of the deceased, it was stated that the person who was injured in the house, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was found dead around 12.30 am.

His head reportedly hit a wooden stick lying in the corner of the bed where he was sitting.

2 STP Workers Died in Kollur Apartment Tank

Hyderabad: Two sewage treatment plant (STP) operators died while cleaning a tank at an apartment complex in Kollur in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as 22-year-old Somit Ruidas and 25-year-old Harish Singh, who worked as STP operators at Blossom Heights Apartments in Kollur.

According to the complaint filed by Somit’s elder brother Amit Ruidas, who also works as an STP operator in Hitec City, the two men were given the task of draining the water from the STP tank around 11.30 pm on December 22. It was reported that after the water was drained at 12.30 on December 23, they entered the tank to carry out cleaning operations. The site manager was also there at that time.

The supervisor asked for help after the workers did not go out and did not respond to repeated calls. Security guards and apartment management employees came to the scene and reported the situation to the police. At around 02.30, fire personnel took the duo out of the tank, but they were found dead.

The complainant claimed that the incident occurred due to the negligence of the site manager and his supervisor, who sent the workers into the tank without taking adequate safety precautions. A case of negligence has been registered against the field superintendent Athul Kumar Jha and further investigation is on.

Sai Varshith’s Partner Arrested in 3 Consumer Drug Cases

Hyderabad: Anti-narcotics police arrested suspected drug dealer Sai Varshith’s associate Pranith Reddy and three consumers on Tuesday, EAGLE force director Sandeep Shandilya said on Wednesday. Shandilya said Sai Varshith closed his bank account to escape police custody after he was arrested by Domalguda police in an NDPS case in August. Shandilya said he started cash dealing by handing over the money to Pranith Reddy, who deposited the money into his own bank account and later transferred it to accounts provided by Mary alias Tamiya, a previously arrested Nigerian drug supplier.

Shandilya said the arrested consumers tested positive for narcotics. Pranith Reddy tested negative.

26 hearing impaired children underwent surgery

While cochlear implant surgery is performed on 26 hearing-impaired children in the ENT department of Gandhi Hospital, 26 children receive pre-implant treatment. Digital hearing aids were distributed to five children.

Speaking at a one-day training camp organized by Meenakshi Venkatraman Foundation (MVF) for mothers of hearing-impaired children on Wednesday, hospital director Dr N. Vani said hearing problems can be treated effectively if detected at an early stage. He praised the foundation for its continued support of hearing-impaired children.

Dr Bhupender Singh Rathod, professor and head of ENT department, emphasized the importance of pre-implant treatment before surgery. He added that post-operative speech therapy provided by MVF for 25 days every month significantly helped children improve their speech and communication skills.

Many mothers shared their experiences and stated that they were initially afraid that their children would become permanently hearing impaired. However, after speech therapy training through MVF and cochlear implant treatment at Gandhi Hospital, they were delighted to see their child talking.

EAGLE Force Prepares for Drug-Free New York

The Anti-Narcotics EAGLE Force, in coordination with the state police (especially from the tri-commissioned offices here), said it has taken comprehensive measures to ensure the new year celebrations are drug-free. EAGLE Force director Sandeep Shandilya said special teams have been deployed across the state to prevent the sale, distribution and consumption of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

Focused checks were being carried out at sensitive locations, including party venues, hotels, bars, highways, crossing points, around educational institutions and other areas known to be drug-prone. Narcotic detection dogs were deployed at sensitive points.

The EAGLE force has issued advice to party-goers to consume booze responsibly and said bars, pubs and event organizers should not serve alcohol to minors. Police also restricted young people from visiting places where alcohol consumption and smoking were allowed.

Event managers have been advised to ban the use of e-cigarettes and ensure DJs, RJs and band performers are free of drug addiction. According to police instructions, organizers are responsible for keeping their premises, including party venues, rooms, toilets and parking areas, free of drug use.

NIA Restricts Pro-Maoist Online Content

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which recently filed a notice against YouTube journalist Raghu for allegedly promoting Maoist ideology and portraying encounters with security forces as “fake encounters”, is preparing to take action against him and the administrators of seven other channels.

The notices were issued for the publication of content that allegedly portrayed the government as criminals while opposing encounters involving Maoist extremists. The videos in question include interviews with former naxalite and Maoist Gade Innaiah and former Maoist Katta Ram Chandra Reddy, who were recently arrested by the NIA.

NIA sources said that they follow YouTube channels closely and collect data on interviews, video content, viewership rates, shares, comments and digital footprints. NIA sources said the agency is particularly focusing on videos that allegedly support the Maoist movement and misrepresent the actions of the government and security forces.

People suspected of committing a crime will be summoned for questioning. NIA stated that legal action can be taken against content deemed to be propaganda that harms national security or supports banned organisations. If necessary, cases can be registered under the Information Technology Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and other relevant provisions.
