Jaishankar celebrated the UK National Day at an event in New Delhi, highlighting the growing ties between the two countries. He noted that the relationship has evolved from a complex historical association into a dynamic and forward-looking partnership. At the event at the UK Embassy in New Delhi, he spoke about the historic Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (ECTA) signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UK three months ago. He also highlighted the largest trade delegation from the UK, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, visiting Mumbai.
“It is my great pleasure to join the UK National Day celebrations… Over the years, our ties have evolved from a complex historical association to a dynamic and forward-looking partnership. This has been an extraordinary year for our modern relationship. We hosted Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Mumbai, accompanied by the largest trade delegation from the UK. Prime Minister Modi personally visited the UK, where the historic comprehensive economic and trade agreement was signed 3 months ago. During this visit, he also discussed Vision 2035 to guide our ties around the world.” 5 pillars: growth, technology and innovation; defense and security; climate change and clean energy. said Jaishankar.
Jaishankar welcomed the approval of nine leading UK universities to set up campuses in India, marking a significant development in educational collaboration. “We have also adopted a defense industry roadmap for the first time… The High Commissioner stated that this is an important development as 9 leading universities in the UK have received approval to establish campuses in India…” he said.
