In December, Alexandra shared a throwback photo from her relationship with David on Instagram.

In the article, Alexandra said she disliked the term partner as ‘unattractively corporate and contractual’ and still felt ‘nauseous’ about calling her partner ‘boyfriend’.

Nicholas Coleridge, then chief executive of Conde Nast, the magazine’s publisher, said when he left his post: ‘Alex has been the longest-serving and most successful editor in Vogue’s 100-year history.

‘During his tenure he became a towering figure of the British fashion press: a consummate journalist and editor who understood and exemplified every quality. ‘He is creative, hard-working, insightful and a brilliant leader.’

Alexandra also said at the time: ‘I realized that I wanted to experience a different life and was looking forward to a future away from Vogue.

‘It surprises me when people say: “Well, you don’t look like the editor of Vogue.” Because I’m the editor of Vogue. So what else does the editor of Vogue look like?’

Alexandra was replaced by British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, who resigned in 2023 after being promoted to Vogue’s global creative and cultural advisor.

Edward was replaced by Chioma Nnadi, who also hosts the magazine’s podcast, The Run-Through with Vogue.
