Another popular nightclub in Goa, Curlie’s, has been sealed
Goa’s nightclubs have been under scrutiny ever since the fatal incident at Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora, North Goa. Another Goa club was closed by authorities during the crackdown on such outlets. The recent fire incident in Birch has revealed that rules are not being followed in such places.
Why was Curlie’s place sealed?
Curlie’s, a popular beach bar in North Goa, was sealed by Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) officials on Friday after ordering a complete audit of licensing, safety norms and operational compliance of nightlife establishments in the area known as the party capital of Goa.
According to CRZ officials, the inspection drive has started penalizing beachside bars and shacks that fail to comply with environmental, fire safety and licensing regulations mandated under CRZ norms. During the inspection, CRZ officials found that the nightclub had committed serious violations, which led the authorities to take strict action.
The nightclub was also previously involved in a high-profile case linked to the death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat in August 2022. At that time, the authorities demolished part of the bar. But even after a serious incident, damage and repeated warnings, the nightclub continued to violate regulatory norms, authorities said.
Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, owners of Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in North Goa, where 25 people died in a fire earlier this month, were deported from Thailand to India on Tuesday (December 16) and arrested on arrival at Delhi airport. Goa Police has released its first photo showing the Delhi-based entrepreneurs being detained at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport after being deported.
