Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited General Manager N. Ramakrishna Reddy said that four corridors with a length of 76.70 km will be laid within the scope of the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project, which will meet the long-term transportation needs of the city.
Speaking at the CII Vijayawada Annual Meeting here on Sunday (March 8, 2026), Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy said the proposed Visakhapatnam Metro-cum-four Lane Road Flyover project along National Highway-16 will improve traffic flow by integrating metro infrastructure with road transport.
“The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed to construct 12 flyovers at various junctions along NH-16 passing through Visakhapatnam to ensure smooth flow of freight and passenger traffic,” Metro Rail Corporation MD said.
The Vijayawada Metro Rail Project, which includes three corridors spanning over 66.20 km, planned along the National Highway flyovers, will improve connectivity to Vijayawada, the official said.
Devendra Kumar, Additional Member (Traffic), Railway Board, emphasized the need for rapid development of transport in Andhra Pradesh, which reduces travel time and improves regional connectivity.
“The launch of Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains offers modern, comfortable and high-speed travel facilities to passengers,” said Mr. Devendra Kumar.
