No loss of land due to cricket stadium project, claims SSUS

Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University (SSUS) officials, along with the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), said that there will be no loss of land due to the cricket stadium project planned at the university’s main campus in Kalady near here.

According to Vice Chancellor (VC) KK Geethakumary’s quote published here on Saturday, December 27, 2025, it was stated that KCA will have land use rights only. The union had decided to proceed with the project, subject to further discussion and agreement. It was stated that the authorities approached the proposal with the aim of increasing the expectations of the Department of Physical Education and transforming the university into a center of excellence in sports.

The VC accused the Save the University Campaign Committee (SUCC) of launching a misleading campaign against the project.

SUCC president RS Sasikumar accused the officials and several members of the Union of aiding their business interests by joining hands with a private agency like KCA. In a statement, he claimed that the project deviated from the goals behind the creation of the university, which included offering courses and conducting research in fields such as Sanskrit studies, art, philosophy and social sciences.
