Tamil Nadu elections: AIADMK will win with thumping majority, General Secretary will be next CM, says P Saravanan

Madurai (Tamil Nadu): All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Madurai North constituency candidate P Saravanan expressed confidence that the party will get a “huge majority” in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, citing a strong anti-incumbency sentiment against the ruling DMK.

Speaking on Saturday, P Saravanan said, “There is serious anti-incumbency against DMK and our party will win with a huge majority. Our General Secretary will be the next CM of Tamil Nadu.”

Taking a harsh slap at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay, Saravanan said, “He is just a real hero, the real hero is Edappadi Palaniswami.”

Meanwhile, the AIADMK has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) accusing the DMK of illegally using the Tamil Nadu government’s Information and Public Relations Department to run its election campaign.

In a letter addressed to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik, AIADMK MP IS Inbadurai alleged that the Tamil Nadu government’s Information and Public Relations Department was being used to promote the ruling party’s campaign.
The complaint alleged that government equipment was used to livestream content on the “DMK4TN” YouTube channel and that campaign-related materials were distributed through a private Gmail account. He also alleged that a government press vehicle and officials, including Joint Director Prabhu Kumar and other staff, traveled with Prime Minister MK Stalin to collect and publish campaign materials.

In its complaint, the AIADMK accused many departmental heads and wings, such as the Tamil Nadu Film Department and Social Media Wing, of actively participating in partisan work and alleged that the staff were forced to perform these duties.

The complaint comes as Tamil Nadu is gearing up for Assembly elections, which are scheduled to be held in a single phase on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4.

The main contest is expected to be between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), which includes the Indian National Congress, DMDK and VCK, and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), in which the BJP and PMK are allies. Actor-turned-politician Vijay will also be contesting elections for the first time with TVK, which could turn the contest into a three-way contest.
