Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Sunday, June 28, 2026, claimed that Tamil Nadu is stuck in a “disaster” under the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government rule and it is the duty of every DMK member to “save” the State from this “disaster”. The State has seen a deterioration of law and order under the TVK government, he alleged and accused the rulers of having pushed it into an abyss.

Addressing several marriage ceremonies held in families of DMK functionaries near Orathanadu in Thanjavur district and Karambakudi in Pudukottai district, Mr. Udhayanidhi said the ruling “couch model” (as he described it) TVK government gave a “ready” response by blaming the erstwhile DMK regime for any problems.

Stating that Tamil Nadu has witnessed a series of power outages in various places, Mr. Udhayanidhi said that the farmers are the most affected by this situation. Farmers are protesting against the Kuruvai special package announced by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay as they find it “inadequate”. Mr. Udhayanidhi, however, alleged that the Chief Minister belittled the farmers’ protest, claiming that it was instigated by the DMK.

Mettur Dam was opened for irrigation in the delta region on June 12 every year in the last five years of the DMK rule from 2021, but this time it did not happen with the intervention of the TVK government. Mr. Udhayanidhi stated that the people of the state started to realize the mistakes of the TVK government, which he claimed was engaged in “horse trading” as soon as it came to power. He added that there was no response from the Prime Minister in the Assembly when the DMK raised various issues, including breakdown of law and order.

The “wrong image” of the TVK government was completely destroyed within a month of coming to power. He said the Prime Minister and his government should take constructive measures instead of targeting Gen Z DMK workers by conducting searches and arresting them while questioning the government’s follies.

It is the duty of DMK workers to expose the “anti-people” actions of the TVK government. Mr. Udhayanidhi said that unlike DMK leader MK Stalin, who visited Kolathur constituency to thank the voters despite facing defeat, Chief Minister Joseph Vijay is yet to meet the people of his won Perambur constituency to thank the voters.
