Tamil Nadu swearing-in ceremony LIVE: TVK president C. Joseph Vijay to take oath as Chief Minister

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C. Joseph Vijay will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, May 10, 2026, ending almost six decades of rotational rule by the state’s two dominant Dravidian parties – DMK and AIADMK.

The actual strength of TVK, which won 108 seats in the last Parliamentary elections, is 107; as the party president Mr. Vijay was elected from two constituencies. He will have to vacate a seat. The party had the support of five Congress MLAs and two each from CPI, CPI(M), VCK and IUML, all of whom were contesting as part of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA).
