1. Allegations of attempt to overthrow the government: Three people arrested for offering bribe to TVK MLA

The three men were arrested by the Greater Chennai Police following a complaint by Uthangarai MLA N. Elaiyaraja of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party that they attempted to bribe him to vote during the no-confidence motion against the Speaker in the next Assembly session.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters at the Secretariat in Chennai, Tamil Nadu Energy Resources and Law Minister R. Nirmalkumar today (July 1, 2026) accused DMK chief and former Chief Minister MK Stalin and Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin of allegedly entrusting former Minister and incumbent Coimbatore South DMK MLA V. Senthilbalaji with the task of “attracting” TVK MLAs by offering them TVK MLAs. Up to ₹50 crore with the intention of overthrowing the government.

2. After the TVK and the survey, the partners took action to institutionalize the alliance with the coordination committee

The first post-election meeting of partners of the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu, held at a private hotel in Chennai, signaled the formalization of the arrangement in the form of a political alliance.

TVK president and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay held talks with Congress leaders, IUML, VCK and MDMK on forming a coordination committee to steer the alliance, framing a common minimum program and deciding on the name of the alliance.

Sahitya Akademi award-winning poet Puviyarasu was buried with full State honors at Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore District Revenue Officer (DRO) S. Madhuranthagi, representing the Government of Tamil Nadu, laid a floral wreath and paid formal last respects to the late poet before the funeral rites.

4. Madras HC refuses to dismiss case against continuation of Nadigar Sangam officers

The Madras High Court refused to dismiss a civil suit filed last year against actors Nasser, Vishal Krishna and Karthi continuing their duties as president, general secretary and treasurer, respectively, of the South Indian Artists Association, popularly known as Nadigar Sangam, even after their three-year elected tenure ends on March 19, 2025.

5. CM Vijay urges PM Modi to relax and amend certain provisions of VB-G RAM G Act

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention to make critical changes and relaxations in certain provisions of the Viksit Bharat – Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Guarantee (VB-G RAM G) Bill, 2025. He also requested the Prime Minister to continue the scheme in Mahatma Gandhi’s name to honor his legacy.
