Tamil Nadu’s history of political silence on murders driven by caste hatred

Two weeks ago, in Tirunelveli, a caste youth planned in a leading company and Kavin Selvaganesh, who was working, was brutally killed by a caste Hindu daughter’s brother. Prime Minister MK Stalin, who easily condemned the arrest of Kerala nuns in the distant Chhattisgarh, did not mention this bloody crime directed by Kast hatred. Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the leader of K. Palaniswami, who visited the Ajithkumar family, a security guard who was killed in an illegal police custody, condemned the Stalin government for ‘honor’ crime. Actor Vijay, the founder and prime minister of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, who met the protest workers protesting workers in Chennai, preserved silence in murder.

The silence examined by politicians is not new. Socially, voters from marginal communities are Wooed, but often used as political mats. On the other hand, political parties have little hesitation in developing the dominant communities of the back and most retrospective classes.

Although former chief ministers M. Karunidhi and Jayalithaa loved themselves to all communities, they were reluctant to throw out their necks and talk about killing in the name of Kast pride.

Karunanidhi personally exceeded his caste barriers by making a few caste weddings in his wide family. Jayalithaa resorted to social restructuring tactics, such as taking planned caste candidates from the general election zones and their election.

Nevertheless, in July 2003, the two leaders did not react to a young couple, cannia (one Vanniyar woman) and Murugesan (planned caste) and shone in front of a large peasant meeting in Vriddhachalam in the Cuddalore region. A few days later, the murder emerged when the Indian Dalit Panthers (now Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi) and the Indian Communist Party (Marxist) raised a red flag. In Tamil Nadu, the term “killing honor” was used for the first time to describe a crime directed by Kast hatred.

Since the high -level journalist Ilangovan Rajasekaran, Murugesan and Kanage have been clearly killed in front of the peasants, there would be no complications in the delivery of justice, you are wrong, ”he writes’ Nathiyin Peyaraal Kola (Snailing at the Speed of Snailing) Nathiin vegathil Neethi ‘(Salathiin Patiga’. It took 18 years for the court to decide the court to continue the justice.

A factor that restricts political reaction is that in the district’s district units, leadership often passes into the hands of leaders from the dominant caste groups of the region. Even during the election campaigns, it is common for the mainstream parties to use the planned caste leaders of allied parties only for the marginal departments to vote for the habitats. Fearful of the existence of a planned caste leader, the latter is asked to stay on the streets of Kast Hindular.

Another disturbing feature is the characteristics of the mainstream parties that are condemned to political clothes created to liberate the community, but in fact to promote the pride of caste.

However, there are rare situations in which leaders express themselves aloud against the caste murders. For example, in November 2018, Mr. Stalin, who took over as the president of the DMK only three months ago, encouraged to eliminate the caste -based discrimination and persecution of the party staff and to ensure the rule of social justice in Tamil Nadu, which was foreseen by the Justice Party. He wrote that social justice is at the forefront of the Dravidian movement: “But now he challenges the increasing number of caste murder in the state. The killing of young couples on behalf of Kast pride is equivalent to destroying ourselves.” “Tamil Nadu is a state that makes him proud of goodwill and peaceful. The increase in the number of people who are dehydrated on behalf of caste is unacceptable; this should not be allowed.”

However, the DMK was on the opposition stalls. After the formation of the government government, Mr. Stalin has provided all the steps to prevent such caste murders and to take strict legal action against such murders ,, but nothing has changed in the last four years since he became a prime minister.

However, DMK sympathizers talk about the “base realities üzere to defend Mr. Stalin’s existing silence. “Before the last parliamentary elections, the DMK in the manifesto, the bride or groom was a planned caste and promised to renew an existing plan to develop financial support for beneficiaries. Parties in the counter camp made a campaign that said that the DMK was doing a campaign. A party sympathizer said DMK had to carry the election commission so deliberately against the misleading campaign.

But is this reason enough to remain silent in the face of murder? This is a question that mainstream leaders – and enthusiastic head ministers – should ask themselves seriously. Until then, silence will continue to speak loudly than words.
