Tannery godown near Ambur gutted in fire accident

A private tannery located in Thuthipattu village, near Tirupattur’s Ambur town, off the Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH-48), was completely evacuated after a fire broke out at the facility, causing heavy smoke in the area.

Police said it was around 2 a.m. when several residents in the area noticed thick smoke coming from the plume. They, along with other residents, immediately tried to extinguish the fire, but the fire spread throughout the facility.

A fire team of 10 people from Ambur, Pernambut and Vaniyambadi towns rushed to the area upon notice. Before they could reach the scene, the fire spread throughout the god. Approximately three hours later, firefighters extinguished the fire.

However, the entire facility was completely evacuated. It is estimated that the leather goods destroyed in the goddess. Residents have complained of severe eye irritation, especially among children and the elderly, due to smoke from the unit.

A case has been registered by Ambur Taluk police. Police reported that the real cause of the accident was being investigated. Additional investigation is ongoing.
