Tartan Army’s World Cup traffic cone high jinks are taking over Scotland

So nature took its course when the Tartan Army descended on Boston and saw the city’s coneless statues.

The people of Boston seemed to like it so much that the proposed twinning of the two cities was marked by the gift of a signed cone from Glasgow to the birthplace of the American revolution.

However, when we returned home, the reaction of some was not very positive.

Edinburgh’s own statue of the Duke of Wellington, located outside Register House in the city centre, was spotted sporting sporty orange hats earlier this week.

Plastic crowns were also fitted to the monuments to Adam Smith and David Hume on the Royal Mile.

While the image is more closely associated with Glasgow, some capital residents say it’s nothing new.

Edinburgh city center councilor Jo Mowatt told BBC Radio Scotland’s Mornings program that the practice made the statues look “dishonorable”.

“I think I would prefer it to stay on the other side of the M8,” he said.

“I can’t tell Glasgow what they should and shouldn’t do, that’s up to them, but in Edinburgh it’s completely inappropriate.”
