Tasmania issues major health alert after teen tests positive to measles Measles

Tasmanian health authorities have issued a major alert after a teenager tested positive for measles; This is the second case of the deadly disease in recent weeks.
The infected youth lives in southern Tasmania and spent time in the Huon Valley and Channel regions while infectious.
In a statement, the Tasmanian Ministry of Health announced to the public that the young person’s test was positive on December 9.
They urged everyone to “be aware of the signs and symptoms of measles” and know where to seek medical attention if symptoms develop.
“The Department of Health is trying to contact people with known exposure,” the warning said.
According to the Ministry of Health’s notification, contact tracing is currently ongoing, trying to understand the movements of individuals while they are infectious and where they may have contracted the disease.
There are currently no links to other measles cases.
Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus that spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
