Meanwhile, Tata Steel is redeploying workers to its 1.2 million tonne Newport plant to make up for the loss of production volumes and ensure there are no material disruptions to supplies to customers. Once operations are fully ramped up over the next four weeks, the facility is expected to operate 24 hours a day, compared to its current schedule of 12 hours a day, Monday through Friday. The executive added that the Newport facility is expected to produce around 20,000 tonnes of steel per week when fully operational.
