Tata Trusts on Wednesday made a significant donation to the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) to develop a world-class undergraduate campus in Bengaluru.

The grant, the amount of which was not disclosed, will directly support the Institute’s long-term academic vision, campus design and institutional roadmap for excellence in higher education in India, IIMB said in a statement. “For over a century, Tata Trusts have supported some of India’s most defining institutions, such as the Tata Memorial Hospital and the Indian Institute of Science,” said Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts.

“This support reflects the same instinct: to build institutions of lasting value through support at an early, formative stage when philanthropic capital can shape not just a building or a budget but also the character and ambition of an institution,” Mr. Tata added.

Located approximately 27 kilometers from IIMB’s main campus, the idea for the new School of Undergraduate Studies has been conceived as part of the Institute’s broader vision to contribute to undergraduate education in India with the same academic rigor and global orientation that defines postgraduate and executive education programmes.

The donation will support the development of world-class academic and accommodation infrastructure. This will enable new clusters of research at the intersection of emerging fields including Artificial Intelligence, data science, algorithmic design, Indian Information Systems and applied business learning, IIMB said.

“We have designed programs that not only give students technical proficiency but also enable young minds to ask better questions, interpret complexity and lead with evidence,” said U. Dinesh Kumar, director-in-charge, IIMB.

He added that the support from Tata Trusts will enable IIMB to invest deeply in faculty, research infrastructure and campus environment, thereby contributing to a state-of-the-art learning ecosystem focused on India’s developmental priorities and committed to empowering global talent.
