Giraffe and unborn calf die at Sydney Zoo

“Our animal care team has done everything possible to save both calf and mother Nzuri. Such decisions are never taken slightly. The welfare of the animal is always our primary concern.”
On the Sydney Zoo website, the gentle giants lists three giraffes, including Nzuri as part of the gentle giraft experience for a person.
For the first time in Sydney Zoo, a giraffe did not die. In 2020, three -year -old giraffe Gigi suddenly died only weeks after he was transferred from the Australian Zoo to West Sydney in Queensland.
A post -mortem exam completed by Sydney University announced that he died of acute enteritis, which is a common intestine problem in young giraffes.
Given that Gigi did not show a symptom of illness and that he was well settled in his new home, he came as a shock for the personnel.
A year later, in another incident, a 10 -year -old chimpanzee named Mogli drowned in a ditch surrounding the morning of 9 April 2021.
The zoo should be closed because the staff is seen while removing Mogli’s body from the water.

An investigation decided that death was the wrong adventure, revealing that CCTV violated a security barrier of Mogli and entered the water.
A statement from the zoo, the barrier has been activated for more than two years without incident, but in response to Mogli’s death, more “natural matter” was added to the habitat to prevent chimpanzees from entering the water.
In May this year, two bull sharks died in the aquarium of the Sydney Zoo.
Zoo, “accidental effect consistent with effect” is the cause of death, he said.
