Taylor Swift’s wedding location kept secret from some guests until days before: source

NEW YORK – The location of the wedding between Taylor Swift and her Super Bowl-winning beau Travis Kelce was unknown until Sunday, according to a source with knowledge of the event. Meanwhile, New York City officials are preparing for days-long weddings at Madison Square Garden this week.

Details about the wedding are still limited, but Fox News Digital reported Tuesday that the NYPD was preparing for an event that would include street closures, hundreds of VIPs and more from Thursday through early Saturday morning, according to another source.

While city leaders expected Swift and Kelce to marry at the Garden due to the pop star’s wealth and interest in “Easter eggs,” according to the source, there is still some speculation that the planned event at the home of the NBA champion Knicks could be a fake.

“Let’s see if Taylor actually comes here or if this is all a diversion,” said Paul Mauro, a retired NYPD investigator who has worked to secure MSG events in the past. “He’ll rent the Garden and any place he wants, and then he has money to get married somewhere else.”

Located above the commuter rail hub of Pennsylvania Station, the arena is surrounded by subway lines, New Jersey Transit, Long Island Railroad and Amtrak service, making it one of the busiest transit hubs in the country. It already routinely hosts a large police and National Guard presence.

“You will see all the resources,” Mauro said. “You’re going to see the horses. You’re going to see the ESU guys, the SWAT, in uniform and with long guns. You’re going to see all of that. But there’s also going to be a lot of things that you don’t see… You’re going to have a lot of intelligence assets deployed, that’s a little more classified stuff. There’s going to be a lot of federal agencies represented, along with the feds, probably, because as I said, you’re going to be pitched in as well. The Fourth of July, regardless of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, this was going to be a hotbed of activity.”

Penn Station is also the city’s gateway to the World Cup games held nearby in New Jersey. Passengers and tourists come and go at all hours. And less than 10 blocks away, on Saturday, July 4, Times Square will host the nation’s 250th birthday celebration.

“There’s a lot going on underground here,” Mauro said. “They’ve got to take all of that into consideration, too. You’ve got to keep the trains moving. It’s a huge burden for New York City. I have no doubt they’ll get it done.”

After all, the NYPD has been doing this for decades. Mauro noted President John F. Kennedy’s famous birthday celebration at Madison Square Garden (where Marilyn Monroe serenaded the president with her iconic rendition of “Happy Birthday”) as well as Mick Jagger’s birthday celebration at the end of the Rolling Stones tour, and President Donald Trump held a campaign rally inside during the 2024 campaign.

Derrick Parker, a former member of the NYPD’s hip-hop intelligence unit who was assigned to monitor the comings and goings of high-profile visitors in the 1990s and 2000s, told Fox News Digital that the police department is preparing for what’s expected to be a “wild weekend” between the World Cup, Independence Day and now Swift and Kelce’s marriage.

“A big part of this will go into planning,” he said. “Who is participating? [the wedding]? Who has problems with each other? This is always a big concern. Will people oppose this? He also had followers. I’m sure they have people to watch.”

Police preparations are expected to include closing 31st Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues on the south side of the Garden and guarding the entrance to the parking lot, where as many as 500 cars are expected to bring VIP guests to and from Friday’s wedding.

“One of the things you have to consider when doing this level of security is who is footing the bill,” Mauro said. “The private security that goes on here, including what they call off-duty employment, these are cops who are allowed to work security on their own time, but they’re allowed to wear uniforms… That’s paid for by the Garden. But of course, all the other NYPD assets that are deployed here, including those currently assigned to 31st Street, those are paid for by taxpayers. There’s nothing unusual about that.”
