TD Worker’s Suicide Threat Video Sparks Protest

Tension prevailed at Nidadavole police station in East Godavari district on Sunday after a Telugu Desam worker posted a video alleging police harassment and threatening to end his life.
Katta Manikanta of Singavaram village posted a video on social media claiming that Nidadavole police cannot stand the allegations of harassment. The video went viral and triggered protests by Telugu Desam leaders and cadres at the police station.
In the video, Manikanta addressed tourism minister Kandula Durgesh and stated that he was under serious distress and that he had been called to the police station many times since April 26 without being informed about the case filed against him. She claimed that she was harassed by some people, including Penmetsa Chandu, with the support of others.
He also said that his father Katta Krishna, a long-time Telugu Desam worker, had complained to the district collector through PGRS 14 months ago about the alleged encroachment on government land, but no action was taken.
Following the video, party leaders and workers led by Katta Krishna staged a protest at the police station on Sunday night. They demanded that Manikanta be produced before them by Monday morning, warning that otherwise the agitation would intensify.
Leaders including Peravali Water Distribution Association president Burugupalli Srinivas, Undrajavaram mandal Telugu Desam president Simhadri Ramakrishna, town president Kommina Venkateswara Rao and former councilors were present.
28 vehicles were seized during cordoning and search operations in Kavali
Police Chief Dr. Acting on the instructions of Ajeetha Vejendla, the district police conducted a cordon and search operation at Islampet within the limits of Kavali Bir District police station on Sunday morning.

The SP said such operations will continue to strengthen law and order.
Police solved the robbery within hours
Sri Sathya Sai district police solved a robbery case in Hindupur within hours of the crime by arresting three accused and recovering the stolen gold ornaments, cash and the vehicle and gun used in the crime.
Hindupur DSP KV Mahesh said the victim, 63-year-old M. Rajeswaramma, was waiting near the RTC bus stand and boarded a diesel vehicle whose occupants claimed they were heading towards Penukonda. As part of a pre-planned conspiracy, the driver threatened her with a knife, stole about 83 grams of gold ornaments and ₹50,000 in cash and abandoned her near the Bailu Anjaneyaswamy Temple beyond Kotnur village.
Police immediately launched an investigation and identified the suspect using CCTV footage. During a vehicle check near the Super-B Spinning Mill, they arrested two people involved in the crime and a minor.
Police seized the car and knife used in the crime and recovered stolen goods worth around Rs 8.70 lakh.
Rajeswaramma thanked the police for their prompt action in getting her belongings back.
A motorcyclist died after a private bus crashed into a two-wheeler near Kavali.
One person died in a traffic accident that occurred when a speeding private bus crashed into a two-wheeler near Budangunta of Kavali town on Sunday evening.
The deceased was identified as Devarapalli Venkateswarlu (45), a resident of Kavali.
According to local people, the bus belonging to Sri Sai Travels allegedly hit the motorcyclist while traveling at high speed and the motorcyclist died at the scene. The bus continued on its way for a while and after colliding with six buffaloes, it was chased and stopped by local people.
Sources said the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
The police came to the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.
One person died and seven were injured when an old building collapsed in Gajuwaka
An old building collapsed in Vikas Nagar, Gajuwaka on Sunday evening, leaving one person dead and seven others injured during tiling work.
The incident occurred around 19:00 when workers tried to lift the floor of a workshop using jacks as part of the expansion. The slab, measuring approximately 10 x 14 feet, collapsed, causing the structure to collapse.
According to New Port police, eight workers were in the area when the building became unstable. While most managed to retreat, one worker stepped forward and was trapped under the debris, leading to his death. The identity of the deceased has not yet been determined.
One of the injured workers, who came from Srikakulam, said that the team planned to complete the work by 8 pm.
