Teachers walk off job across Melbourne and Victoria in protest of Allan Government, Education Minister Ben Carroll’s pay offer

Speaking on 774 ABC Melbourne this morning, Victoria branch president Justin Mullaly said the 28.3 per cent pay rise was significant but acknowledged educators were still disappointed with the government’s offer.

“What [members] “We want to see the best possible conditions and the best pay rates to ensure that we have adequate staffing in our schools, as this is critical to delivering programs for students,” he said.

Despite the rejection of the second offer, Mallaly said he had no doubt there would be tens of thousands of education staff on the streets of the CBD today.

Mallaly also said he believed parents supported the teachers’ search and industrial action.

“Ultimately, it’s about providing education,” he said.

“I think parents and school staff share a common goal that we want the best quality education for our children and young people, and we need funding to do that.”
