Techie Loses £16 Lakh In Matrimony Scam

Hyderabad: A 26-year-old software engineer from Madhapur, who allegedly lost ₹16 lakh in an online marriage scam, approached the Cyberabad police on March 23. Police said a case has been registered and further investigation into the incident is on.
According to her complaint, Chinthamreddy Venkata said that she contacted Karthik Reddy through a matrimonial website. The defendant first contacted him through his father and shared his personal information, then they started communicating regularly.
He claimed that in the initial stages he gained the defendant’s trust by borrowing small amounts and returning them. He then began demanding larger sums of money and allegedly pressured her to borrow money from friends.
The complainant stated that she transferred installments totaling Rs 16 lakh to multiple bank accounts linked to the accused, which gradually rose to higher amounts of around £70,000. When she demanded repayment, the defendant allegedly threatened to harm her family. The complaint lists multiple phone numbers and an Instagram account allegedly used by the defendant.
352 Kg Spoiled Chicken Seized in Sanathnagar; Merchant Arrested
Police arrested 66-year-old Suraj Pal near Sanathnagar for allegedly storing and supplying 352 kg of frozen spoiled chicken for supply to local vendors, police said on Friday. Earlier this week, police arrested another man who was dealing in over 600kg of tainted chicken.
Acting on reliable information, Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H-FAST) personnel along with veterinary officer Dr K. Nagarjuna conducted an inspection at SPR Chicken in Bharathnagar near Moosapet.
It found that spoiled chickens were stored in unhygienic conditions and supplied for the preparation of foodstuffs for public consumption.
The seized 352 kg of frozen spoiled chicken included wings, breast, ribs and livers. It was found that the hygienic condition of the facility was poor and the FSSAI license had expired. The stored food items were deemed unfit for human consumption. The accused and the seized material were handed over to Sanathnagar police station for further investigation.
Four Persons, Two of whom are Minors, Caught with MDMA Worth ₹ 6 Lakh
Four people, including two children, were arrested for allegedly possessing and supplying MDMA in the city, police said on Friday. 60 grams of contraband worth 6 thousand liras were seized from their possession.
The Jubilee Hills Task force, along with Sanathnagar police, caught the group of two youths, Songapu Hemanth and Mukkagalla Nagendra, while they were allegedly trying to deliver the narcotic substance to customers. The other two accused Sai Nikhil Yadav and Aditya were absconding again.
Police said one of the youths contacted the absconding accused in Chintal and procured MDMA from them for sale. He allegedly purchased 60 grams of MDMA for distribution two days before his arrest. The seized contraband was handed over to Sanathnagar police station along with the accused.
Attack on pediatrician in Nirmal sparks criticism
The reported attack on a pediatrician at a private hospital in Nirmal was strongly condemned by the Telangana Senior Resident Doctors Association (T-SRDA), which demanded immediate action and stronger protection for healthcare workers.
According to the association, Dr. Santosh Raj and the hospital staff were allegedly attacked by a group of officials following a dispute over the bill. “T-SRDA unequivocally condemns the latest attack,” the association said, warning that such incidents pose a serious risk to the safety of doctors and hospital staff.
The association stated that doctors often work under pressure, caring for critically ill patients and distressed families. “Acts of violence not only endanger the health of medical staff, but also endanger patient care and disrupt the operation of the hospital,” the statement said.
T-SRDA called for immediate investigation, identification of those involved, strict implementation of legal provisions, improvement of hospital security and long-term policy measures to prevent violence against healthcare workers. In supporting the affected doctor, the association emphasized: “Ensuring the safety of doctors is essential for a functional healthcare system” and called on the authorities to act quickly.
Two rowdy linen sellers were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a child
The Rangareddy district court sentenced two rowdies to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of a 14-year-old boy under Balapur police station limits in 2019.
IV additional district and sessions judge LB Nagar convicted Shaik Owais, 27, an auto driver from Bismillah Colony, Shaheen Nagar, and Syed Jaffer Ali (25), a painter from Falaknuma, Achi Reddy Nagar, under Sections 302 read with 120(B) of the IPC. The court also fined the defendants 500 liras each.
According to the police, the incident took place around 11 pm on July 19, 2019, when the accused, along with a child, killed 14-year-old Mohd Moosa on the outskirts of Sultanpur village due to previous enmity.
Investigators identified Owais as a rowdy sheeter under Balapur police station and Jaffer Ali under Bandlaguda police station limits. The investigation was conducted by V. Saidulu, inspector in charge of Civil Supplies.
Police officials said strict action would continue against those involved in criminal activities and warned rowdy sheets to maintain good behavior in society.
Worker electrocuted during crane work in Dulapalli
A worker died due to electric shock during loading operations at an industrial facility in Dulapalli, Petbasheerabad, on Thursday evening.
Police identified the deceased as 33-year-old Sharan Yadav, a resident of Ramnagar. The incident took place around 17.15 at Rocher Fabrication Private Limited, where the iron scrap drum was lifted onto a truck with the help of a crane. Investigators said that during the process, the crane’s arm came into contact with high-voltage power lines.
According to the authorities, it was claimed that the loading work was carried out without taking adequate safety precautions, despite the presence of electrical cables. At that time, crane driver Raghu, company owner Gopi and another supervisor Satyanarayana were present on the field. Yadav, who was standing near the scrap bin and holding it, received a fatal electric shock and collapsed instantly.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the complaint of his wife, who claimed that the unit was negligent in not implementing precautionary measures, the police opened a record about the incident. A detailed investigation into the incident continues.
Video of LPG cylinder theft goes viral
The video showing two youths allegedly stealing LPG cylinders near an apartment building in Narsingi’s Alkapuri district was widely shared on X on Friday.
The footage allegedly shows two unidentified men on a two-wheeler standing next to a minivan carrying LPG cylinders, believed to be for delivery purposes. While one of them was seen going downstairs, taking a cylinder and running away from the scene, the CCTV camera opposite the minibus also recorded the incident. Narsingi police said they did not receive any complaint regarding the incident.
Cyber Crime Alert: Hyderabad Police Issues Advisory on Malicious APKs and Extortion Scams
Hyderabad cyber crime police have warned the public about the rise in scams involving sharing of OTPs, malicious APK files and so-called ‘digital arrest’ scams. Scammers impersonate banking, telecommunications or government officials to obtain OTPs and gain access to bank accounts and personal data.
Victims are also directed to download fake mobile apps that allow access to messages, passwords and device activities. Using stolen data, scammers pose as law enforcement officials, threaten victims with fake cases, and extort money under the pretext of verification or resolution.
Police advised people not to share OTPs or download unknown apps and to report incidents to the 1930 helpline. cybercrime.gov.in.
A young man who performed a bicycle demonstration near Secretariat was arrested
Saifabad police arrested 23-year-old Ibrahim Beg for allegedly performing dangerous bike stunts near Lumbini Park and Secretariat to create social media reels. Beg, a former resident of Malakpet, reportedly drove recklessly in high-security areas, causing panic among commuters and pedestrians. Police said the demonstrations posed a serious threat to public safety. Upon notice, the police arrested him and seized the bicycle and mobile phone used in the demonstrations.
6 people arrested for illegal liquor sale in Vanasthalipuram
Vanasthalipuram police arrested six people for illegally selling liquor during Sri Rama Navami, in violation of government orders mandating closure of wine shops. Inspector Ravi Babu said that the accused were caught selling liquor within the police station limits from their homes in different areas. Pramod Kumar and Mallayya were kept in Autonagar, Ellamma in Indiranagar, Srinivas in a two-bedroom housing colony and Vijay and Chandramohan in Injapur. Police teams led by sub-inspectors Girish, Nagaraju and Anil conducted coordinated raids based on specific information and seized around 37 liters of liquor, including bottles and beer. A lawsuit has been filed against all six defendants and the investigation continues.
BTech student found dead in hostel room
A 20-year-old BTech student died by suicide in his hostel room in Ibrahimpatnam on Friday.
Police identified the deceased as Kandimalla Sai, a second-year BTech (CSE) student of Guru Nanak College, who was staying at Divya Reddy Boys Hostel in Ibrahimpatnam. The complaint was filed by his father Kandimalla Nageshwar Rao (42), a farmer from Sri Rangapuram village in Nalgonda district.
Officials said Sai returned to his native village for the Ugadi festival and stayed for four days. He left for Hyderabad around 10 am on March 23 and informed his family that he would return to the hostel.
Around 10.15 am on March 27, Sai’s younger brother received a call from his roommates informing him that he was found dead in his hostel room. The family rushed to Ibrahimpatnam and saw the body being taken to the Government Hospital morgue.
Relatives alleged that Sai was tortured due to some financial debts. “Though they have not named anyone yet, they suspect him of taking loans and being mentally harassed by the lenders. However, as per the available evidence, we have not found any evidence of the allegations,” said Ibrahimpatnam inspector M. Mahender Reddy.
Based on his father’s complaint, a case was registered under Article 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) and further investigation is on.
