Teen accused of killing Universal co-founder to be committed to trial next month
The case of the teenager accused of murdering Universal Store co-founder Greg Josephson at his multimillion-dollar estate is expected to go to trial next month.
Josephson, 58, was found dead at his home north of Brisbane in June last year after a Thursday evening party attended by dozens of young people.
A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder after the death shocked the close-knit community of Clayfield.
In March, the teenager’s lawyer, Kris Jahnke, told the court he was awaiting the preliminary opinion of a psychiatrist who had seen the boy since late last year.
Jahnke had previously described it as a complex issue and that although the psychiatrist had met with the teenager many times, there had been difficulties getting into the youth detention centre.
At a hearing in Juvenile Court on Tuesday, Jahnke said the case had been postponed several times to allow for psychiatric evaluation.
“This is close to completion, but there is no need to delay these proceedings any further,” he said.
Jahnke said he wanted the case to be heard on June 18.
Josephson founded Universal Store with his brother Michael in 1999, and the duo sold the company in 2018 for $100 million.
Before his death, Josephson and his wife were planning to sell their property worth $5 million in Clayfield while focusing on various business ventures on the Sunshine Coast.
