Washington: On Saturday, the United States published a “but page” full of figures that led to discussion in the technology industry and immigrant communities. The document defended President Donald Trump’s decision to slap $ 100,000 (over 88 RS) to new H-1B visa applications, and framed American workers as a measure to prevent the replacement of lower paid foreign labor.
FactSheet has drawn the outline of a dramatic change in IT labor force. “The share of IT workers with the H-1B visa increased from 32 percent to 65 percent in the 2003 fiscal year.”
Unemployment among the latest computer science graduates hit 6.1 percent, while computer engineering graduates have faced more than twice the rates of the departments of biology or art history departments. The White House added that the US external science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workers increased by more than two times between 2000 and 2019 and that general STEM employment increased only by 44.5 percent.

Who is shot, who escapes
Data from US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) show that Indians receive 72 percent of the approximately 400,000 H-1B visa issued between October 2022 and September 2023.
Panic spread among Indian professionals in the United States after the fee announcement. Many travel plans canceled or ran to return to the United States to avoid being caught outside when the wage came into force.
Immigration lawyers and companies have warned Emergency warnings, H-1B visa holders and their families abroad and returned before the announcement began on Sunday.
Trump management announced hours later: a fee of $ 100,000, not only for renewals or existing visa holders, but only for new petitions. The White House added that the petitions presented before September 21 are exempt from the new wage. Currently, those outside the United States do not need to pay the entrance fee.
The announcement brought relief to thousands of professionals, including Indians who were afraid to be influenced by the sudden rule.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday that the US watched comprehensive US H-1B changes, including the big new annual fee, and that the movement could disrupt families and create humanitarian concerns.
