Teen fights for life after reported ‘train surfing’ stunt goes wrong
A young boy struggles for his life after falling off a moving train in a “train surfing” stunt gone wrong.
Emergency services were called after a 16-year-old man was involved in a shocking incident between St Peters and Sydenham stations in Sydney’s inner west on Saturday morning.
The boy may have reportedly engaged in “train surfing,” a dangerous stunt in which people board from the outside of a moving train.
When the young man fell on the rails next to the moving wagon, medical teams rushed to the scene.
The man, who was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance staff for serious head and arm injuries, was taken to the Royal Price Alfred Hotel in Camperdown.
His condition was reported to be critical but stable.
“Officers from Inner West Police Area Command attended and were told a 16-year-old boy had fallen from the train compartment onto the tracks,” NSW Police said.
“Police launched an investigation into the incident”
The incident caused significant disruption to rail services outside Central Station, with frequency delays and some lines being put on hold.
The Daily Telegraph reports that the incident took place on the Tangara model train, known as the T-set, which is at the center of the government’s crackdown on the controversial train.
Last year, the Minns Labor government announced a commitment that all double-decker T-set trains would be fitted with anti-surfing devices by the end of 2026.
