Janshakti Janta Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav was arrested for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) while filing nomination papers from Mahua Assembly seat in Bihar’s Vaishali district on Sunday, October 19, 2025, police said.

According to a statement by the district police, the Mahua Circle Officer lodged a complaint with the concerned police station after a video went viral on social media showing Mr Yadav driving an SUV bearing the police logo and a beacon during a procession to submit his documents on October 16.

“A detailed investigation was carried out and it was determined that the police logo and beacon used on the vehicle were a private logo. Therefore, a lawsuit was filed for violation of the Electoral Code of Conduct,” the statement said.

Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, joined the party on May 25, 2025, after being expelled from the RJD for six years by his father, reportedly for admitting that he was “in a relationship” with a woman. However, he later deleted the Facebook post, claiming that his page had been ‘hacked’. Lalu Prasad Yadav also rejected Tej Pratap for his “irresponsible behaviour”.

A few days later, after his expulsion from the RJD, Mr. Yadav had alleged that there was a “conspiracy” to drive a wedge between him and his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav.

He had expressed his feelings in several posts on his account X and blamed the crisis on “Jaichand”, a metaphor for traitors.
